Whats That Lamp is a full-stack web app designed and developed by Johannes Bengtson.

With over 10 years of experience in the lighting industry, I wanted to turn hands-on customer service knowledge from a relatively complex field into a simple, intuitive tool. Choosing the right light isn’t always straightforward — especially when you’re standing in front of warehouse shelves filled with hundreds of different light bulbs, all with varying technologies and specifications.

Add to that the challenge of understanding lumens, kelvins, voltage, and wattage, and the process quickly becomes overwhelming.

The app — or rather, the form — is built around the exact questions I regularly ask my customers. By streamlining these questions into a JavaScript-driven flow, the goal is to deliver the same guidance and recommendations I would normally provide in person.

Hopefully, this tool will help you navigate the process — and who knows, you might even pick up a thing or two and learn something new along the way.

The website and web app are continuously evolving. Features are refined, logic is improved, and new functionality is added over time — all with the goal of making the experience simpler and more helpful, while still allowing the tool to grow more advanced beneath the surface.
